What is your company's name, and how do you assist authors?
The name of my company is The Author's Lab.
The Author's Lab is a hybrid signature program for aspiring authors. In this 5-week, step-by-step, intensive coaching program, I help the aspiring author by giving them the resources they need and hold them accountable to birth their books. It is the mindset shift they need and the resources they deserve on their journey to becoming an author. I have developed a workbook to guide them along the way. We meet weekly for an hour and I provide a safe, intimate platform for interaction and collaboration amongst the aspiring authors. Lastly, in The Author's Lab, I bring in the key experts for every facet of the author journey, from graphic design, publishing, branding, and much more.
How long have you been working in the publishing industry, and what need do you see in this profession?
I have been an Author Coach for about two years. I started off assisting women one-on-one when they would reach out with questions. Due to the influx of requests, I decided to curate a unique program based on what I wish I had when I was on my authorship journey. I have learned that most people either do not realize that an Author Coach exists or do not recognize their need for one. It is often the common misconception that the only thing needed to write a book is a publishing company. However, most people have no idea where to get started with writing, how to strategically organize their content, and/or lack the skills, discipline, motivation, and/or knowledge to get on the WRITE track! Due to this, they usually hand the publishing company an unfinished manuscript.
Why should an author consider working with a writing coach?
Someone should consider an Author Coach for a few reasons. First, I would like to point out that it's the same concept of a Basketball Coach, a Life Coach, or any other coach. A professional Author Coach guides you through the writing process. Once I become your Author Coach, you achieving your writing goals becomes my goal. Together, we will transform your idea into a finished book, no matter where you are on the journey. An Author Coach can help define the target audience, develop an outline and provide structure for the book, identify story and logic gaps needing to be filled, and/or feedback on writing style. The beauty of having a coach is you and your Author Coach work together to come up with a tailor-made strategy for your book.
What is the #1 problem that authors encounter when publishing a book?
The number one problem is knowledge. Most aspiring authors piecemeal during their process by gathering information from other authors, friends, the internet, etc. That is such a draining process, especially when writing and finishing a book. One of two things usually happens:
1. They stop writing
2. They stop researching and don't know what to do once they are done writing.
That's why The Author's Lab's number one mission is to make this more of a cohesive and continuous process for the aspiring author.
